Viewing the report

The report contains a number of elements:

  1. A total sales summary - showing views of sales in the last 7 days (by day), last 4 weeks (by week) and the last 12 months (by month).

  2. An average order value summary - showing views of the average order value in the last 7 days (by day), last 4 weeks (by week) and the last 12 months (by month).

  3. A summary of the Top 10 sales by brand - showing views of the top 10 selling brands in the last 7 days (by day), last 4 weeks (by week) and the last 12 months (by month).

  4. A summary of the Top 10 sales by category - showing views of the top 10 selling categories in the last 7 days (by day), last 4 weeks (by week) and the last 12 months (by month).

How should I use the report?

Whilst this report is very helpful in providing a holistic view of your seller sales, it’s true value lies in being able to provide a good snapshot of individual seller performance. (To do this, make sure you select a specific seller from the filter drop down box on the top of the report.) Some suggested questions to keep in mind when working through this report are:

  1. Start with the overall sales and average order view:

  • Do you see any obvious trends over the last 12 months for your seller?

  • Do any of the peaks correlate to a sales promotion or other marketing activity that was run during this time?

  • Are there any known seasonal reasons for these trends?

2. Then look at the top 10 listings for sales and average order value by brand and category.

  • Are there any new brands or categories for this seller which have appeared in the top 10 for the first time?

  • Are all the brands and categories shown across the different time frames (ie: last 7 days, last month, last 12 months) consistent or has there been a lot of variance over time?

  • Are there any promotional or marketing activities in place during these times which might be influencing any differences or spikes in the products or categories featured?

Tip: To dive deeper into understanding what products, categories and brands might be driving an increase or decrease in sales and the average order value for this seller, look at the following reports:

  • Purchased Products by Seller

  • Purchased Products by Category

  • Purchased Products by Brand

These are all located in the Purchasing Insights reports folder. Filter the report for your specific seller. You can adjust the date ranges on these reports to help you identify particular periods where the seller might have been undertaking specific marketing activity.

Using your insights

From there, you can use the insights from these reports to explore opportunities around:

  • The products/categories that are selling strongly and understanding what marketing activity (if any) has been driving this. Can the seller expand their range to include more similar products to capitalise on this growth? Can they expand their promotional activity to other times of the year when sales are limited?

  • The products/categories which are not selling strongly and reviewing what can be done to drive sales. Are the low sales isolated to just this seller or is it a pattern being seen across all sellers? Can you apply some of the promotional or marketing techniques from the successfully selling products to help drive sales for those on the lower end of sales?

  • Are there some products or categories which should be removed from sale if they are just not generating any sales interest?

  • Are there any products that could be bundled together by the seller to help drive sales (and increase average order value).

  • Of the products generating the Top 10 sales by sellers, are there any similar products at a slightly higher price point which can put on the site to further drive the average order value for this seller?

  • Which sellers might need some coaching to improve their sales performance?

  • Which sellers might be at risk of churn due to low/no sales?
