ImPROVED Search INSIGHT REPORTS

What are the Search Insight Reports?

The Search Insight reports are a suite of reports within M Insights designed to help you identify what your customers are searching for on your site, as well as what they are looking for, but you don’t have.

The reports include views of both resolved (searches made which return a match) and unresolved searches (searches where no matching keyword/product/category/brand could be found).

What has been improved?

Some key features of the Search Insights reports have been updated recently:

Unresolved Searches Dashboard

Unresolved Searches Dashboard

  • Improved load times for the reports

    • As you can imagine, tracking all the search activity from your Marketplacer site results in a huge data set. As a result, the Search Insight reports have often been very slow to load. We have reduced the number of times a day these reports update and limited the data sets to the last year of data to reduce the load times for these reports significantly. You may notice the first time they load that they are a little slow, but any subsequent visits to these reports should see faster load times.

  • Improved Search Dashboard

    • The Search Dashboard has been improved to summarise a number of key search metrics, including top searches by category, brand, keyword and seller, top unresolved searches and searches by availability, condition and location. Users can also dive into the detail of any of these metrics by selecting the ‘All’ button at the top of each chart, which will take them to the detailed report.

  • Improved Unresolved Search Dashboard

    • Our previous Unresolved Searches Dashboard didn’t provide the ability to understand the context of an unresolved search. For example, was a keyword search that was unresolved undertaken within a category or brand search or from the homepage? The new Unresolved Searches Dashboard provides a view of these factors for the top unresolved searches on your site.

  • Improved Propensity to Travel report

    • This report now features a better format to help you understand the propensity of your customers to travel based on an individual location as well as a state by state view. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

How should I use these reports?

Search_Locations.JPG

These reports are designed to tell you what your customers want to buy (searches) and what they want but can’t get (unresolved searches).

Some opportunities include:

  • Top searches and keyword searches reports

    • What are the most searched for products, brands and categories on your site? Are there opportunities to expand the ranges for these on your site to maximise sales or inquiries?

    • Can you improve your site taxonomy to make it easier for your customers find the most searched for products/brands/categories? Is the terminology being used in your marketing and/or email campaigns supporting your taxonomy?

  • Unresolved searches

    • Which brands or products are costing you sales or inquiries because they are being searched for by your customers, but are not currently available on your site?

  • Top/unresolved searches

    • Which searches were confined to a short timeframe and could be the result of particular topical events or promotions happening at the time?

    • Are there opportunities to feature particular products on the homepage to coincide with this event/promotion next time around so that customers can easily find what they are looking for?

  • Search locations

    • Are there any locations which are being searched for that are not currently serviced by sellers on your marketplace?

  • Propensity to travel

    • Are your customers more or less likely to travel long distances to access products from your sellers? If they have a low propensity to travel, do you have enough sellers within the lower kilometre radius areas (especially within metropolitan areas) to provide sufficient variety in products/pricing?

    • If someone selects a low propensity to travel, can you more heavily promote the convenience of online sales to them?

  • Unresolved Searches

    • This report provides a view of the number of unresolved searches made on your marketplace (ie: those where a search has returned no matches). This report can be filtered by date, category and brand.

    • Please note if you see any particularly strange unresolved search keywords, this could be the result of web bots or hackers. Unfortunately this cannot be entirely eliminated from the data provided.

    • To learn more about the Unresolved Searches report, view our Feature Report overview of Unresolved Searches.

    • Please note: this report is currently in Beta - we are working to improve this report and filter out some of the bot-related search returns and make it more user friendly.

  • Top Search Locations

    • This report provides a view of the number of searches made for a particular location (ie: the suburbs/cities most searched for). This report can be filtered by date, state, category and brand.

  • Propensity to Travel

    • This report provides a view of the kilometre radius around their search location which customers are willing to travel within to locate their searched item (for example, within 20km). This report can be filtered by date, location, category and brand.

    • Select a specific suburb or city from the location filter options in order to view the propensity for people who searched for that suburb to travel outside this area.

Tip: The total search quantities featured in these reports exclude any unresolved searches quantities. (Unresolved search quantities are featured separately in the unresolved search reports).
